3 Essential Steps to Finding Your Purpose

None of us asked to be born and yet here we are. Trying to make it through this life without falling out and giving up. I get it. But at the end of the day, your life is what you make it. Do you have dreams and aspirations that you hope to fulfill? Have you talked to that girl you have been eyeing for the past three minutes? Did you finally decide to say "hi" to that guy you have been walking past every day? These are the things that make life worthwhile and not matter who crapped on you or beat you down...you are important. You have a purpose.

Some of us don't know what our purpose is. We came into this life with no instructions. How am I supposed to know what my purpose is in this life? How am I supposed to know what I was meant to do? Well, I can't answer any of those questions for you because I am still trying to answer them myself, but I can give you three ways that you find your purpose and make it worth your while. Pretty sure I said that already, but I am saying it again!

  • Listen to your heart.

No, I am not talking about the dance techno song by DHT. I am talking about actually focusing on what your heart is telling you regarding your purpose. It could be something as simple as opening a soup kitchen for the homeless. Only your heart can lead you to places that your mind can't. Keep your focus on what it may be telling you to do, and if you need clarification, give it a few more days...maybe a week. Not only will your heart grow stronger, but your purpose will become clearer.

  • Open your mind.
I am well aware that I just said in the last point that only your heart can lead you to places that your mind can't. I still want you to keep that I mind, but I also want you to know that your purpose lies within your mind as well. You may have thoughts or dreams at night that may lead you to your purpose. When these thoughts, or dreams, enter your headspace be sure to pay very close attention to what is going on and make note of it in a journal. These mental images may lead you to your purpose. If they do not, kindly disregard them. The mind is always working and you will have random unnecessary thoughts enter your headspace. That is normal.

  • Tap into your personality
Now, I am not saying dive so deep into your personality that you find this entire blog unnecessary. But I do want you to make note of the things that you bring to the table. To help you out, think of a job interview. You've been to a few already. One question that may help you find your purpose is by asking yourself: Why should we hire you? You can manipulate that question however you want. But the purpose of the question is to help you figure out what your purpose is. Think about what people like best about you. Think about what you like best about yourself and make yourself a good list of all of your great qualities. They might end up coming in handy later.
